The Most Frequent English Mistakes Students Make
As I've been teaching for six years, I noticed that students from diverse countries usually make recurring mistakes over and over again. It's the usage of the Present Tense. They might get confused about when to add 's' or 'es' to the verb. Even if we have tackled the tenses many times but they still come up to the same mistakes over and over again. Because what they have gotten used to is to memorize the base form of the verbs.
COMMON MISTAKES:
❌ She do homework every day.
✔ She does homework every day.
❌He wash the dishes every weekend.
✔ He washes the dishes every weekend.
❌It go to the park every morning.
✔ It goes to the park every morning.
❌He watch TV on weekends.
✔ He watches Tv on weekends.
In English, we have to add 'es' to the verbs that end with 'ch, sh, and o' such as watch, wash, do, go, etc. when the pronouns are 'it, she, and he', i.e. She does homework. He goes to bed. He does housework.
When we use the Present Simple form of the verb, we usually add 's' or 'es' after the verb to make it into its Present Simple form.
If the pronouns you use are 'you, they, we, and I', then you don't need to add 's' or 'es' after the verbs.
Remember that when we use a singular subject, we also take a singular verb and when we use a plural subject, we also take the plural verb, except for the pronoun 'I.'
Practice making sentences to internalize the correct grammatical structures.
